USAID PLASTIC PRECYCLING PROJECT IN COOPERATION WITH KOMUNALANA HIGIENA CONTINNUED HOUSEHOLD PLASTIC COLLECTION IN VLAE

On March 1 and 2, 2008, USAID Plastic Recycling Project in cooperation with Komunialna Higiena supported household plastic collection program in Vlae.

1.600 households were supplied with bags for PET collection. Students from the Elementary School “Dimo Hagi Dimov” joined the employees of Komunalna Higiena in distribution by promoting the concept of plastic recycling as one of the key steps in protecting the environment. At the same time in the schoolyard, the students, teachers, USAID Plastic Recycling Project team and employees from ProCredit Bank, branch office in Karposh, were engaged in clean up action.

“It is very important to engage youth in projects that promote environmental issues.  We embrace the idea students to be the messengers for protection of the environment -when directly engaged they are the best advocates for change”, stated the School Principal Mrs. Lela Nikolovska.

On 15 November 2007, the USAID Plastic Recycling Project signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Municipality of Karpos for implementation of plastic waste collection program. The American people, through USAID have invested $ 30,000 in this project, the Municipality pledged another $ 30,000 and the $ 40,000 were invested by the public enterprise “Komunalna Higiena”.The household collection program in Vlae followed as a continuation of the Municipal PET Collection Program in Taftalige 1 and 2.
