Law on packaging and packing waste soon to be discussed at the Assembly

Following a serial of public debates organized by USAID Plastic Recycling Project and Embassy of Kingdom of Netherlands, the Law on packaging and packing waste is expected to be submitted to the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia for adoption.

Òhe Association of Recyclers (PETRA), etsblished through USAID Plastic Recycling Project is taking this final opportunity for lobbying for additional changes in the final version of the Law by initiating procedure for submitting amendments to several articles that will guarantee sustainability of the recycling industry in Macedonia.

The amendments are related to increasing national targets for collection and recycling of packing waste and decreasing proposed dates for their implementation.
The amendments will address the following articles of the Law:

  • Article 35 - National targets for collecting, processing and recycling ofpacking waste
  • Article 63 - Deadlines for implementation of the Law (Chapter VII)
  • Inclusion of informal collectors
