Strumica, Public Awareenss Event “Green Strumica”, organized by USAID Plastic Recycling Project and USAID Primary Education Project (PEP)

In order to promote USAID investments and raise awareness on environmental issues the USAID Plastic Recycling Project and Primary Education Project organized joint event on 23 of May, at the city square in Strumica.

Host of the event were the Mayors of Strumica, Mr Zoran Zaev as well as the Mayors of Novo Selo, Vasileno and Bosilovo.
The event marked the finalization of the pilot phase by organizing presentations of the portfolios by members of the five Green Clubs and quiz focused on environmental themes: energy efficiency, recycling, etc.

This event was an opportunity for project partners on municipal level to promote their activities and achievements. Cleaning action was organized through the central streets of the city. Students from the elementary schools, wearing project branded t-shirts  performed theater play promoting environmentally conscious behavior.
Tim Donnay, USAID Macedonia/ AMD gave Certificates of Appreciation for successful competition of the pilot phase.

Through PRP, USAID supported both Municipality of Strumica and municipalities of Novo Selo, Bosilovo and Vasilevo in providing plastic containers for selection of plastic waste and rising public awareness on recycling.   In the pilot phase the Municipality of Strumica received $30.000 for purchasing 25 plastic and 10 iron containers and one hydraulic compactor while in the new phase of the project three municipalities received $30.000 for purchasing 49 containers and organizing public campaign.
