On 24 of December, the USAID Mission Director Mr. Michael Fritz met with the Minister of Environment and Psychical Planning Mr. Nexhati Jakupi to discus the proposed Law on Packaging and Waste Packaging and the importance of this legislation that should ensure sustainability of recycling efforts in Macedonia.

The both parties agreed that the successful implementation of the law will stimulate growth of the recycling industry of Macedonia which will result in immediate employment and longer-term livelihoods for marginalized groups.

In order to support the activities regarding development of the draft law of packaging and waste packaging of Republic of Macedonia a Memorandum of Understanding was sighed between the Ministry of Environment and Psychical Planning and the USAID Plastic Recycling Project, implemented by MDC – Ti.NET and the Business Environment Activity implemented by Booz Allen Hamilton.
This Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate the cooperation between the Parties in activities that will lead to the development of a solid draft Law on packaging and waste packaging.
