Kumanovo, the USAID Plastic Recycling Project marked the beginning of the Municipal PET Collection program for primer selection of plastic waste

In presence of more than thousand citizens of Kumanovo, the USAID Plastic Recycling Project marked the beginning of the Municipal PET Collection program for primer selection of plastic waste. USAID Charge D’Affairs Mr.Thomas Navratil and Mayor of Kumanovo, Zoran Damjanovski delivered their speeches at the opening ceremony.

“Through the USAID Plastic Recycling Project, we are helping the government, the municipalities, public and private utility services and schools in a joint effort to share resources and skills and to educate our children about preserving the environment,” said US Charge D’Affaires Mr.Thomas Navratil.

Many students from primary schools in Kumanovo, youngsters from kindergartens and citizens attended the event. Students dressed in well known, branded, yellow t-shirts advertised the motto of the Project “Collect PET for better planet”.  “If PET bottle had a choice, it would prefer to be recycled”, “Think for the planet before you through plastic PET”, were some of the messages were some of the messages on the transparents held by youth. New containers for selection of plastic, PET waste, purchased with the USAID grant, were promoted at the event as well.

NGO sector from Kumanovo took the opportunity to join this event and promote their activities as well. Projects partners, NGO’s “Lipa” and “Vrama si” had their booth as well. While Lipa is focused more on environmental projects, Roma NGO ’’Vrama si” promotes education and employment of Roma population on municipal level. Both NGO’s will implement the public awareness camping in Kumanovo.

    

 

The event culminated when young star, Denis Dimovski, performed the Anthem of Plastic Recycling Project.
